Spend a few minutes browsing websites and you’ll quickly see emerging trends. The look and feel of websites has changed dramatically since we began turning to the web for most of our information and resources.
For 2014, web design trends fall into five easy categories.
For a long time websites used their home pages as way to tease you with the information found elsewhere on the website. Think of a newspaper’s front page – where part of a story is written and then it continues in a different section of the paper. Simplicity means avoiding cluttering your website with information your users do not need. Less cluttered home pages; often with a single call-to-action is a certain 2014 trend.
2. Big Text
The first thing you see on many recently launched websites is text. Big, bold and hard to avoid, this approach sets the tone for the site.
3. Big Images
Images which engulf the page on their own, or combined with big text can be strikingly effective for presenting and reinforcing your site’s message.
We are increasingly accessing websites via our mobile phones and devices other than our desktops. Not all websites currently translate effectively to different sized screens. They need to and the trend is they will. Web designers will continue to incorporate technology into sites which responds to the user’s preference. The integrity of the site is maintained as resolution and image size accommodations are made.
It’s a buzzword that’s been around web design for a while, but in 2014 we will see storytelling begin to reach its full potential. The idea is to present information using written content, visual (pictures, video) to create a pleasant and informative experience for your user. If your site is visually interesting, you will grab and hold your potential customer’s attention.
Discuss with your website designer what trends you should implement. You know your intended audience and your brand. Research what other sites in your industry are doing. The goal is create a user experience that works across all screens and devices for your market.
