A website design that looks good is not enough. Include these simple elements to create a customer friendly site which ultimately increases sales.
1. A simple web address
Using your company’s name makes it easy for people to find and remember your site’s address. Keep it simple. Remember consumers are conditioned to using a .com extension.
- Keep it short
- Easy to pronounce
- Not too similar to competing names
2. A clear description of what you are and what you do
Use your homepage to clearly sum up products or services. If visitors have to hunt and search for product and service information, they probably won’t.
3. Easy navigation
Every page should be easily accessible from the main menu and a sitemap page. Drop-down menus work well.
4. Easy to find contact information
Include “how to” contact you information on every page of your website. Best spots are the footer or side bar. Again, make it easy for customers to find the information they want. Include different ways for them to reach you; phone, email and a link to your location and address. (Google maps works well for this).
Use a contact form which can be completed and submitted directly to you. This allows you to contact potential clients. WordPress has a number of effective plugins which are customizable and easy to use. Slick Contact and Contact Form 7 are great examples.
5. Customer testimonials
People like to deal with companies others recommend. Including testimonials highlights the quality of both your products and the services you provide. This builds trust and trust equals sales.
6. Quality content
Your website is often the first impression a customer has of your business. Organize information into short paragraphs. Use headers, bullet points and images. Incorporating a blog, keeping information updated and including connections to your social media sites keep the site fresh with the added bonus of improving SEO.
The web is a competitive sales market. Visitors scan pages quickly and really want to do very little work. Incorporating the above will enhance their experience on your site, the ultimate key to improving your bottom line.
