Website design is an interesting industry as it is always changing and developing. Trends come and go. What is current one year can look outdated the next. Listed below are 5 of the top trends which can’t be ignored for 2015.
1. Uncluttered Home Page
Over the past couple of years we’ve seen the gradual emergence of websites with non-essential elements removed. With fewer images, less written content and less complicated colour schemes than we’ve seen in the past, 2015 websites are cleaner and simple looking.
2. Ghost Buttons
As websites become less visually complicated, we are also seeing the streamlining of site navigation. Minimal and stylish, “ghost buttons” are emerging as a go-to element for designers. Transparent, and a basic shape (rectangular or squared); they work very well with large background images or a flat design. Use of “ghost buttons” as a key design feature can give your site an up-to-date feel.
With mobile devices becoming the primary tool we use to search the web, scrolling has evolved as a must have element of responsive design. It is simply easier to scroll through a page than to constantly click links to other pages within the site. Information is easier to find. This has also helped with the popularity of the one-page website. Initially we saw extended scrolling on home pages, but in 2015 we are seeing it on all, or most, of a site’s pages whether we search on our phones or on a laptop.
4. Custom Photography
One way a business website can set its self apart from competitor’s sites, is to use custom photography instead of stock images. Using images taken at your business location – say a store or office – can personalize your company. It is an effective way to show who you are and what your product is. Stock images are easy to spot and on occasion can still work, but more and more visitors want a personal connection. Custom photography helps build your brand and customer relationships.
5. Fewer Image Backgrounds
A popular trend leading up to and in 2014 was the use of large header background images. This year we’re seeing a move from this look. We often saw text running along the top of the page, not unlike a photo caption. This year we are seeing text take centre stage. Home page backgrounds are either image free or text is so large, the image is almost negated.
